Adoption Process
We strive to place each rescue in loving, appropriate, and approved homes with families that will love and cherish them forever. We do not adopt out any rescue as birthday or holiday gifts. Our dogs are kept at our rescue based in Georgia and are brought up once to twice a month to our scheduled adoption events in either Lyndhurst or Wallington NJ. NO rescue is able to be met before the scheduled event unless stated otherwise.

1. Submit An Adoption Application
Start by completing our online application for adoption. Applications can be submitted for a specific animal or list "pre-approved" if not applying for a specific animal.

Below are our requirements for potential adopters:

Must be 25 years or older​

You must have a veterinarian reference. If you do not, you must provide a second personal reference, and by submitting the application, you consent to a home visit by one of our volunteers.

You must have 2 forms of ID.

You must provide proof of homeownership. If you do not own your home, a copy of a lease showing that you are allowed to have a pet is required OR THIS APPLICATION WILL NOT BE PROCESSED. Please email it to 2handssaving4pawshumanesociety@gmail.com

You must give the name and phone number of one personal reference

2. Application Review
A volunteer will talk with you about your residence, other people living in the household, lifestyle, and other pets you may own to ensure the best match is made for everyone. A volunteer will also follow up with your veterinarian if you have current or recent pets, your landlord if you rent, and personal references as needed. Please allow several days for our us to complete that process.

3. Adoption
f your application is approved, we will ask if you want to participate in our pre-adopt program. Our pre-adopt program allows you to commit to your chosen dog or cat, sight unseen, by placing a $200 NONREFUNDABLE deposit that will be credited to your overall adoption fee with pickup at our next adoption event. If you chose not to pre-adopt, we can not promise that the animal you are applying for will still be available for adoption at the time of the scheduled adoption event.
